Where it stands

Flight testing and certification

Midnight is Archer’s planned passenger air taxi. The design combines a wing with distributed electric propulsion and seating for four passengers plus a pilot. It does not provide road-driving capability.

Archer reported a piloted roundtrip between Salinas and Hollister in September 2026. Earlier development flights included a 55-mile runway-based mission; that result should not be treated as an equivalent vertical-takeoff range test.

Airline, infrastructure and event partnerships form part of Archer’s proposed market entry. They indicate preparation and commercial interest, while aircraft approvals and specific passenger-service permissions remain essential to delivery.

Availability

Development and demonstration program; not a generally available consumer flying car.

Certification & operating context

FAA certification program ongoing; UAE Restricted Type Certificate pathway announced in May 2026, not a certificate award.

What to watch next

Completed certification evidence, documented VTOL mission performance and authorized passenger routes.
