Where it stands
Certification testing
Joby’s aircraft, commonly known as the S4, uses six tilting propellers and carries a pilot with four passengers. Its intended role is a booked transport service between landing sites, rather than a vehicle that can drive on public roads.
The program reported flights by its first FAA-conforming test aircraft in March 2026. Subsequent demonstrations placed the aircraft in New York and North Texas, making airport integration and route operations visible parts of development.
Joby combines aircraft development with plans for operations, customer booking partnerships and infrastructure. Published speed and range are manufacturer figures; they do not guarantee a particular route, payload or travel time.
