Where it stands
Restructured company; certification development
VoloCity is a two-seat, 18-rotor aircraft intended for short urban missions. Its currently linked manufacturer specification sheet gives an operational range of about 20 kilometers including safety margins and moderate headwinds. That is more conservative than older headline range figures frequently repeated online.
Volocopter entered insolvency in late 2024 and its operating business was sold to a Diamond Aircraft group company in 2025. Development continued under the reorganized business. A January 2026 update set a company target of EASA certification for VoloCity in 2027 while acknowledging component lead-time challenges.
Our assessment: VoloCity remains relevant because the program combines years of testing with a deliberately short-hop concept. It should be presented with its restructuring history and current uncertainty visible. The company’s separate VoloXPro announcements do not establish VoloCity certification or the availability of passenger air-taxi flights.
