Where it stands
Flight testing / certification development
The SD-05 is a three-occupant multicopter whose manufacturer emphasizes short-distance access and vertical-flight performance. Its compact mission differs from winged aircraft designed primarily for longer regional travel. The current product specification lists a 15–40 kilometer range and a 110 km/h maximum cruising speed.
SkyDrive has demonstrated 100 km/h flight and advanced its certification planning with Japan’s aviation authority. Its partnerships in Japan and overseas describe prospective routes and a targeted 2028 commercial introduction. These are preparation activities rather than services available for immediate booking.
Our assessment: the aircraft’s usefulness will depend heavily on where it can land. A short-range vehicle can still save time if its endpoints are well chosen. SkyDrive’s rooftop and transit-related work therefore matters alongside the aircraft itself, while the final approved operating limits and route economics remain to be demonstrated.
