SkyDrive and South Korea’s Verty announced a memorandum on September 17, 2026 to prepare for SD-05 operations. The partners described a feasibility study covering safety, infrastructure and routes, with a target of commercial deployment in 2028. Tourism and regional transport are among the applications under consideration.
A target year is a planning assumption, not a confirmed opening date. The announcement establishes a partnership and a program of work. It does not make a sightseeing seat bookable today or establish that every approval needed for the proposed service has been received.
Our analysis: a partner focused on operations can help translate an aircraft into a coherent passenger experience. Route design has to account for where people begin their trip and where they need to end it. A technically feasible aerial link is less useful if either landing point requires a lengthy detour.
The strongest evidence of progress would narrow the proposal: named sites, a defined initial mission, the applicable approval path and credible ground connections. Starting with a bounded service could let the partners learn without assuming immediate coverage of a whole city. For now, the agreement expands SkyDrive’s prospective market and gives observers a concrete relationship to follow as the aircraft and the local operating framework develop.
