Diamond Aircraft announced the integration of Volocopter in March 2025, keeping the business headquartered in Bruchsal, Germany. Legal adviser SZA separately described the sale of the insolvent company’s operating business following its late-2024 insolvency filing. This was a restructuring of a troubled enterprise, not the launch of a finished air-taxi network.
The history matters when reading older forecasts. Announcements made before an insolvency and ownership change should not automatically be treated as current delivery commitments. The program’s later statements need to establish its revised plans, resources and certification objectives.
Our analysis: preserving an aircraft program can retain engineering knowledge, test experience and relationships that would be difficult to recreate. An established aerospace owner may also bring useful industrial capabilities. Neither benefit guarantees certification or commercial success; the reorganized operation still has to demonstrate that its plan is workable.
A balanced account should therefore acknowledge both the setback and the continuation. Calling VoloCity simply abandoned would miss the subsequent development work, while describing it as routinely available would overstate the evidence. The useful questions are what remains in the program, how the new organization supports it and which milestones it actually completes. The acquisition changed the business context; the aircraft’s readiness still requires its own assessment.
